Eyup is one of the historical districts located in central Istanbul, which also has an important place in Islamic history. Eyup had a significant role during the conquest of Istanbul which is once considered as a sacred duty for Muslims. For the sake of this task many Muslims fought and died here. Due to that reason Eyup can be regarded as a gateway to eternity.

To better preserve and emphasise the historical and spiritual significance of the district and to promote its acceptance to the UNESCO World Heritage List, local government launched an organisation in 2015. In this context, to develop a new visual identity and communication strategy for Eyup, local government organised a competition in which 5 design studios were invited. As POMPAA we aimed to design a visual identity parallel to the spiritual identity of Eyup.

Eyup has many visitors throughout the year, doing its peak at the Ramadan month. Due to its role in the history, there are several mosques, tombs, fountains and masjids that have historical importance located around the neighbourhood, however due to lack of informative tools many visitors do not have the chance to fully-experience the area.

For the visitors of Eyup to better understand the district and to navigate effectively, we developed a communication strategy that covers the 3 phases of the visiting experience.
